We are not retailers, so our memorabilia doesn't come at a retail price. This means that our reserve prices are lower, and as a result, your event will have the chance to raise more money - and that's why you have a fundraiser, isn't it?

Here is some information that will help you to better understand how it all works.

What is an auction and how does it work?

An auction is simply a sales technique that sees people bid on your product. Unlike selling at a fixed price, an auction encourages people to keep bidding higher amounts of money based on their desire to purchase the item. The person with the highest bid wins the item.

Is there more than one type of auction?

There are two types of auction, the active auction and the silent auction.

-The active auction, uses an auctioneer to describe each item to the crowd of bidders and encourage them to bid higher amounts.

-The silent auction simply sees bidders write down their bid on a piece of paper placed next to the item. They are normally given a certain time frame in which to bid, and like the active auction, the highest bidder wins.

Although both types of auction are extremely successful, although the active auction is generally better because an auctioneer can stir the emotions of the bidders and encourage them to keep bidding higher and higher.

Can we just sell an item at a fixed price?

You can definitely sell an item at a fixed price if you want to. In fact, this can be a better option than an auction if you only have a small amount of people attending your event or you have time restrictions. This is also more suitable for school fetes, where it's set up more as a market stall rather than an auction event. The same rules apply to fixed price items. We will place a reserve on the item and you will decide how much you would like to make from it. So, if our reserve was $75.00 and you were happy to make $50.00 from the sale, your asking price for that item would be $125.00. Still a very simple method of fundraising that can make some good money for your event. It's important to know your crowd and use the most appropriate sales technique based on that crowd. If in doubt, don't worry, we'll help you out.

What does consignment mean?

Consignment simply means that we will provide you with memorabilia for your fundraising event, and you only pay for the items if they sell for more than the reserve price. *Conditions apply

What is a reserve?

A reserve is the price we set for each item. Once the reserve price is reached by bidders at an auction, any money above and beyond that amount goes to you. For example,if we place a reserve of $150.00 on an item, that item must sell for at least $150.00 or the reserve is not met, which means the item is "passed in" and is no longer part of the auction. So, if the reserve on an item is $150.00 and it eventually sells for $300.00, we make our reserve of $150.00 and you also make $150.00. If the item doesn't meet its reserve, and therefore doesn't sell, we take the item back and you owe us nothing. It's that simple!

What happens if an item doesn't sell at our fundraising event?

As mentioned above, if it doesn't sell, you don't pay for it.

How do we choose the right memorabilia for our event?

We have a huge range of memorabilia available (See memorabilia fundraising). All you need to do is select the items you want and then let us know. If there's something you would like but don't see it in our memorabilia section, we can try to source it for you. How do we collect our memorabilia?

Gubs to Guernsey's can arrange to have your items delivered (*Delivery fee may apply) or you can collect them from us yourself. Contact us for further information on delivery and pick up pricing.

Grubs to Guernsey's don't just supply memorabilia for your fundraisers and auctions. We can also provide you with a Master of Ceremonies (MC) or an Auctioneer.

Our experienced team have hosted many successful fundraising and charity events and can help to make yours one to remember.

A trivia night is a great way to get people interested in your event. These nights are fairly inexpensive to organise and are ideal for a mid year fundraiser that's informal and fun. Because we frame all of our own memorabilia, we are able to give you the very best deals, and that extends to our jersey framing service. If you need jersey's or cricket bats framed for your event, let us take care of that for you as well. We also have a great selection of perspex cases for all types of sporting balls.

Hints for organising your event.

It's not easy organising a fundraiser, especially if you've never done it before. As you know, Grubs to Guernsey's can help you with all of your fundraising needs, but here are a few hints and tips to help you get started.

- Give yourself plenty of time to organise your event. The bigger the event, the more time you should allow yourself.

- Make sure you tell people. If no one knows you're having an event, you'll end up with an empty room.

- Don't just rely on word of mouth. Include all details in your newsletter and on your website if you have one.

- If you are a junior sporting club or school, hand out flyers at your canteen.

- Place a small classified ad in your local paper. Most of them have a "Community notice board" section, which is very cheap and quite often free.

- Ask the local radio station to give your event a plug. They are usually very happy to help you out.

The more people who know about your event, the more money you can raise, and remember, your event is only as good as your planning!
